This short documentary chronicles a Hungarian Jewish family's harrowing yet inspiring journey during and after World War II. It details the early life of Rose Weinburger, who moved from a rural farm to Budapest, where she met her husband, Eugene Funk. The film captures their challenges during the Holocaust, including forced labor, deportation to Auschwitz, and their efforts to protect their child, Judith, by hiding her in a Catholic orphanage. After the war, the story follows these women's attempts to rebuild their lives in America, highlighting their resilience, complex family dynamics, and the enduring bonds that helped them survive one of history's darkest periods.
Rose left Auschwitz with her hair, a diary, and her uniform. Years later, she became a successful entrepreneur and lived a cultured life in Miami Beach until her passing when she was just shy of 100 years old. Although her journey to reunite with her daughter was challenging, they developed a significant yet intricate bond. Their relationship is marked by the profound emotional and moral dilemmas they faced, reflecting the deep and complex nature of their connection shaped by their shared traumatic experiences.
