This project is a work fueled by passion. Over the last 10 years I have seen a great Anti-Israel sentiment spread on US college campuses, and over the last three years I have seen Anti-Semitism increase in the whole country. I have also seen how misinformation and disinformation have played a great role in creating this hostile environment. Over time I grew angry. And then I decided to do something about it. The work I am creating, entitled The Nightmare and the Dream, tells the story of the creation of Israel, starting with the persecution of Jews in Europe in the Middle Ages, leading to Theodore Herzl and his solution - the creation of a Jewish State- and ending with the pioneers in Israel and the Declaration of Independence in 1948. This work is a choral piece that will last about one hour. The purpose of this campaign is to gather funds to finish writing the work and to premiere it. I have already written about 30 minutes worth of it, and I am not writing the music only, I am also writing the text. That implies doing the research and elaborating a draft for the text, then starting to write the music to the draft and changing both music and text until they form a coherent whole. Let me give you an example: The third section of the work is called "Herzl's Vision". To write it, I read the Jewish State, a 65 page pamphlet, and Old New Land, a 300 page novel, both by Herzl; then I culled two pages of useful quotes from the books and finally proceded to write the music as I kept reducing and adapting the text. The end result is a 7 1/2 minute work that presents both Herzl's plan of action and his vision for Israel as a whole. My goal is to give the general public an understanding of the reason and the way the modern State of Israel emerged and to create a stronger bond between the Jewish people and the Jewish State. As to my composing career, I was recently named 2019 McKnight Visiting Composer for the American Composer Forum, which entails creating a new choral work titled The Immigrants. I have also composed a similar work to The Nightmare and the Dream called Moses, an Oratorio, which was premiered in 2017 in Wilshire Boulevard Temple, a historical landmark in Los Angeles. That work lasted 90 minutes and took us through the story of Moses with soloists, a choir and orchestra. Here you can see a picture of the premiere. The only thing I have left to say is that you should ask yourself a question: "How important is it for me to get rid of Anti-Semitic and Anti-Israel agitation?" Ponder that a little bit, take out your wallet and help put the truth about the origin of the State of Israel out there, for all to see. Thank you very much for your help. I'll see you at the premiere.
