After the end of the world, two exes, Aidan and Eva, might be the last people alive. In a desperate attempt to win her back, Aidan proposes something crazy…should they have a baby?
Eva refuses. Why bring a child into a world humanity has already destroyed? What’s the point?
As they argue, the conversation becomes about something larger: a future that has ceased to exist and whether love can exist in a place where tomorrow is no longer promised.
WHY THIS FILM?
Nowhere But Here began as a one-act play, selected in June 2024 by The Elif Collective and Personal Pizza Party for development and a NYC reading. It has also been through several rounds of editing through the directing workshops at Adult Film NYC with Kit Kauhar. Now, we’re adapting it into a short film to share with a wider audience.
In the current political climate and the onslaught of seemingly-world-ending news, this story to shows what could potentially happen further in the future – after the world ends, in a future where political leaders do fail us, and run the world to the ground.
This story asks questions many of us find ourselves asking…Is it ethical to bring new life into a collapsing world? Can humanity redeem itself?
Or, more specifically, how do people, in that timeline try to trudge forward and grapple with the bleak environment? When the world you know has been ripped from you, and the future you’ve been promised is no longer there, how can you move forward? How do we grieve for the life we thought we'd have, and can we even have hope for a better future?
If any of this resonates with you, please consider contributing to our film.
