While traditional dance education often operates within rigid, demanding systems, CENTRIFUGE takes a different approach. We’re focused, direct, and efficient, putting the artists at the center of everything we do.
Our mission is simple: to provide choreographers with the opportunity to hone their craft, create unique and authentic movement material, and develop a distinctive choreographic voice. This is where dance breaks free from the conventional, and where bold, innovative work takes shape.

We look for committed artists who are ready to take on a challenge to further realize their choreographic vision and get hands-on experience with professional, experienced guidance. As part of the expanding community that is forming through CENTRIFUGE, we want to reach more choreographers who possess a promise and talent that can ripen through further nourishment, stimulation, structure, and experience, and who may struggle to get through the door elsewhere due to a lack of credentials for overwhelming and highly competitive application processes, or who don't have access to industry cliques for networking and securing opportunities to engage in the craft. 

These artists are an important group in the dance ecosystem but often due to lack of resources, these artists are not in a position to pay for programs like ours. This is why we launched this campaign, to raise funding for scholarships for CENTRIFUGE. So we can grant some dance makers the opportunity to engage with us at no cost. And this is why we need your support!

CENTRIFUGE is a unique program and community where promising choreographers come together weekly to meet with renowned guest artists and are joined by dancers to collaborate in making movement material in real time through new tools and prompts.

Each session is thoughtfully curated to provide a challenging and inspiring environment of exploration and experimentation, embracing time pressure and risk-taking. Our focus is on building skillful, virtuosic, and healthy artistic exchange, where choreographers are encouraged to push their creative boundaries and explore complex movement themes; and where dancers get the opportunity to work with choreographers in a process-oriented environment and make new and meaningful connections.

At CENTRIFUGE, we create a space where collaboration, experimentation, and artistic risk-taking are at the core of the process, allowing dance artists to connect deeply with themselves and their peers. The program is a unique space where dancemakers of different tiers and levels of experience get together to push the boundaries of dance and nourish each other's curiosity and creativity.

As the program was first offered in October 2024, it became clear very quickly that it was long overdue. The NYC dance community needs this space and for it to truly contribute to the advancement of dance and choreography in a way that transcends financial status and background, we need to raise funding to offer scholarships for the program to promising artists. 

While the scholarship fund's main goal is to invite promising young choreographers to participate, it is also our intention to provide subsidies to talented dancers between jobs so they will be able to come and collaborate with makers in our sessions for free or for a reduced price.
