Outside the Lines is a collective of resourceful and scrappy theatre artists located in New York City. After members found themselves jumping from one self produced project to another, they finally accepted the thrilling mission of getting a theatre company off the ground.
Our work sprawls beyond genre, medium, and process–sometimes taking the form of established musicals and others focused on the development of new works. Through it all we seek to produce ensemble-driven work that explores girlhood, womanhood and all the messiness in between.
Amidst a climate of increased polarization, isolation, and miseducation, we are committed to creating theatre that speaks to the nuances of our current political landscape. By connecting with the communities around us and engaging with shared experiences we truly believe we can inspire a greater good. And maybe, better yet, begin to shape one for the people around us.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to challenging the habits of institutional theatre in order to create equitable spaces.
As a collective led by young women, we strive to facilitate projects highlighting our current time, which brings
Outside the Lines to produce
Spring Awakening in April 2024.
Spring Awakening explores the issues of reproductive rights, queer identity, and survivorship from abuse. In a multitude of ways we are still experiencing the 19th century issues of
Spring Awakening in our modern day.
Spring Awakening begins rehearsals on April 1, 2024, with performances April 26-28, 2024 at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theater at the
ART/New York Complex in Midtown Manhattan.
We are starting from scratch on this project -- applying for grants, organizing fundraising events, and crowdfunding through Fractured Atlas. Any support you can offer is deeply appreciated. Your donations will be used for a variety of costs, including but not limited to: rehearsal and performance space, design materials, performance rights, and artist stipends.
