In February of 2021, Rainbow Militia and Prismajic are joining forces to create a four ring circus performance of otherworldly delight. Celestial Chaos will combine the talents and expertise of theatrical circus artists with the artistry and creativity of the immersive and visual arts to bring audiences into the clouds and beyond.

Inspired by ancient Greek mythology, Celestial Chaos tells the story of three gods of balance who think they can do better than the creators of Earth. They have come together to create the “perfect” world, and this time they know they’ve got it (ok, so there have been 346 failed attempts so far). They’ve created two celestial beings whose decisions determine the fate of the planet, and have invited humans to join in the fun to see if the world is a success. They aren’t alone though, chaotic gods from earth have also decided to join in the fun in the hopes of adding a little “spice” to the lives of the beings. Will love conquer all? Or will chaos take over adding this world to the “scrapped” pile? 

Rainbow Militia performances are known for creating worlds that bring audiences out of  the ordinary and into the imagination, blending circus and theater in an open format, different from the traditional theater experience.

Get ready to be wowed! Celestial Chaos will feature Denver’s top talent including performers from Black Actors Guild, Circus Foundry, and Spirit of Grace performing exciting circus acts such as aerial dance, acrobatics, juggling, chinese pole, and cyr wheel in addition to contemporary dance, theater, and live music. 

Created by Prismajic, the magical world in the clouds will feature four distinct zones inhabited by gods of Greek mythology

 

 

 

The Center Ring will be home to the Sun and the Moon and the Muses that help them along their journey. Fabric will be draped down to the floor, pooling elegantly like the stripes on a circus tent, while small twinkle lights at the top serve as a soft illuminated backdrop for the performers as they dazzle the crowd.

 

Add realistic electric candles in the pools of fabric on the floor, creating ambiance and warmth. Add a large decal of the Celestial Chaos logo on the floor.

 

Props are added that allow the performers to interact with the scale of the ring, creating depth and wonder.

Within a white pine forest backdrop sits a dilapidated shack inhabited by two gods. A soft glow emanates from the cracks and holes in the walls of this humble building.  Heavy 3D clouds hang down from the heavens while stars twinkle in the night sky. A single large ladder reaches toward the heavens, just out of reach of the stars, but just close enough to encourage someone to try to touch the heavens. 

 

In this set everything is white. It will allow for the lighting to change the colors for mood and effect during the scenes that occur in this ring. It is basic so a single warm glow will come from the shack. 

 

Add additional ladders and programmable candles and lights around their bases to create wind and other special effects. Add color to the shed and a fabric mist and twinkle lights at the base of the trees, creating a magical tone. Build a backdrop to create an atmosphere of seclusion and intimacy.

 

Add rocks and landscape pieces to create a fuller sense of immersion and owls and forest creatures to bring the forest to life. Add colored bulbs to the clouds so they glow.

 

 

 

3D cloud sculptures hang from the sky.  Between these clouds stars emerge, descending almost to the floor of the ring. We are in the heavens. The stars are larger, and there are more of a variety of sizes. The clouds are within reach and bigger. The floor is barren allowing for the gods to move around the space freely on cyr wheel, on roller skates, and with dance. 

 

Add lighting to illuminate the cloud sculptures and the stars from the inside, adding ambiance and depth. Build a backdrop to create seclusion and intimacy

 

Add internally illuminated cloud sculptures on the floor to the edge of the ring and props for the performers to interact with.

 

 

 

3D cloud sculptures emerge from the floor as the gods wander amongst them, spreading delicious evil in their wake.  A handful of stars dot the skyscape, close to the floor. Lightning crackles through the blackness of space.

 

Illuminate the cloud sculptures and the stars and lightning with interior lighting. Add color to create points of interest and integrate the space. Build a backdrop to complete the environment.

Add prop and additional landscape pieces to add dynamism and create structures for the performers to integrate into their performances.

This production will take place at the Exdo event center, a 14,000 square foot space in the heart of the RiNo neighborhood. This stunning black box style space features top of the line sound systems, lighting rigs, and incredible options for rigging up any and all circus equipment. The space is large enough to accommodate smaller audiences with plenty of room for social distancing, and features a top of the line ventilation system for the safety of all participants.

It is no secret that 2020 has been an incredibly difficult time for artists. For many of our artists, this project is one of the only ways they will be able to work in their chosen profession. Rainbow Militia and Prismajic are so proud to have worked hard to find a new way to move forward and keep the arts alive in a safe way, and we are so grateful for your support.

Rainbow Militia is an immersive circus and event production company founded and run by Amber Blais, Cerene Shepard, Elizabeth Smith, and Staza Stone. Joined by over 100 circus performers, actors, musicians, Rainbow Militia has produced immersive productions and events in the Denver area ranging from smaller more intimate gatherings to large choose-your-own-adventure productions ranging across 16,000 square feet (Zabiti, 2019). In the summer of 2020, Rainbow Militia was given a unique opportunity to create COVID-conscious immersive productions in a soon-to-be-demolished bungalow off of Tennyson Street. Gnome Away from Home and Death’s Unraveling both proved to be successful sell out productions that allowed audiences to experience live performance and music. Prismajic is an immersive arts company founded by Eric Jaenike and Jennifer Mosquera in 2017. It has its roots in event design and production as it was originally founded as Artistry Events & Design in 2012. Prismajic’s mission is to harness the power of art to change how people look at themselves and the world. In 2019 Primajic launched its first large-scale public exhibition at the Museum of Outdoor Arts called Natura Obscura. It was extended two times and received rave reviews and over 55,000 visitors during the course of its run. In 2020 Prismajic opened its second experience, Shiki Dreams, a pop up experience which continues the exploration of the world of Natura Obscura. As with any production or event created in 2020, there is always a level of uncertainty as to whether this event will be possible on our current timeframe, however both Rainbow Militia and Prismajic have proven throughout 2020 that they are able to work within current safety guidelines to create incredible and safe immersive experiences.
