Who are we?
Revolve is a contemporary art space that functions as part gallery, part studio, part performance and gathering space. We have hosted exhibitions, events, and happenings that bust hard boundaries between artist and audience, image and idea, inspiration and technique. Our intention is focused on representing creative energies on a foundation of inclusion, accessibility and experimentation.
Revolve’s mission is to support the varied creative energies of Western North Carolina, as well as regions beyond, to represent many different communities and forms of expression. In doing so, we hope to build a community with connections to an intellectual landscape that reaches beyond our mountain borders.

Why are we raising money?
At its core, Revolve is committed to fair compensation of artists, and we do not support the exploitation of creative labor for arts organizations offering little more than fringe benefits. Our goal for this fundraiser is to focus on rebuilding the organization’s financial security, so Revolve can continue to be an accessible resource for emerging creatives. In the past year, we have expanded our programming to focus on our community connections and supporting various marginalized groups who deserve support and spotlight in the Contemporary Art Scene. Revolve has been largely volunteer operated for the past year, with the Director position receiving a small monthly stipend in exchange of 30+ hours of work per week. We understand that this is not a sustainable model for operating, and we are looking to our community for help to grow.
What's the plan?
Some of our goals for 2023 include: fairly compensating collaborators who will contribute to critical programming and infrastructure needs, to make more resources available to our immediate community through a collaborative print space and our communal reading room, and to expand our reach through continued community partnerships. We have co-created with Our Voice, DIYabled, Word on the Street, Skillset and the STEAM Studio, Six Feet Photography Project and dozens of individual artist initiatives. Accessible and inclusive contemporary art spaces are crucial for communities, and this fundraising would be a major boost towards furthering our vision of being a resource for, and representation of, the vibrant and expansive culture of Western North Carolina. We have already begun these changes in 2022, but our goal is to able able to do so without worrying about how rent will get paid each month. We fully community led and community funded, and we continue to remain community first in every way possible.
The financial goal of this fundraiser is intentionally low, so that we may build up trust + connection with our community.
