End of Campaign: Thank YOU!

Thank you to all our supporters over the past 4 weeks of crowdfunding. With your help, we’ve been able to reach 104% of our goal!

These funds will allow us to rent a state of the art performance venue, pay our artists a stipend, and allow us to make improvements and expand our overall operation. Together we are ensuring that female voices are given equal opportunities in the dance community.

And stay tuned for more exciting updates from RIWCP by signing up for our mailing list: https://riwomenschoreographyproject.com

We Did It!!!

We did it, everyone... Our campaign is fully funded, with six days still left!

We cannot begin to thank you for the generosity you have shown in helping us reach our crowdfunding goal. Thanks to you, we will be able to:

  • Rent a state of the art theater venue for our 2020 performances
  • Provide a stipend to our dancers
  • Make improvements to our overall operations

You are a part of our success in changing the narrative for female choreographers. By providing a platform for them and nurturing their growth, we are changing how women perceive themselves as capable art creators, as well as setting an example for generations to come.

But our work is still not done.

Arts (and artists) are a severely underfunded part of our society. The more the RI Women's Choreography Project raises, the more we are able to pass onto our hardworking dancers, and focus a marketing strategy to increase our presence. This project has the potential make a real difference in the world, as it is already doing within the Rhode Island community.

You have helped us achieve the goal we had set. Now, let's see how far we can surpass that goal in the next six days! Please continue sharing our campaign and spreading the word about our mission. Every dollar makes a difference. From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful for the support you have shown us, and we cannot wait to embark on the third year of the RI Women's Choreography Project with you.

THANK YOU!

We are four female professional dancers, and we have experienced firsthand the gender inequality present in choreography. We started the RI Women’s Choreography Project to address and change this imbalance within our local community. RIWCP provides a platform for female-identifying artists to push their boundaries and present work in a supportive and nurturing environment. Our first two years have been met with great success: we have had 15 choreographers create new work through our platform, we sold out our entire run in 2019, and we have paved the way for one young emerging choreographer to receive her first professional commission from Festival Ballet Providence.

                                       3rd Annual Performance

On May 30th through the 31st the RI Women’s Choreography Project will present its 3rd annual performance. This event will be the culmination of three weeks of new and emerging female-identifying choreographers rehearsing their new works.

Our goal this year is to pay our well-deserving artists. Our success thus far has been achieved entirely through volunteers. While we appreciate the time everybody has put in to make our vision a reality, we do not want to contribute to the problem of artists not getting paid for their work. Compensating participating choreographers will promote gender equity in the dance world, on top of supporting our local community.

We want to show the community that we value our female identifying artists, but we need your help funding this vision. Along with ensuring that we are financially supporting our dancers and choreographers, running a project like this has many operating costs. The RIWCP needs to raise funds to cover the cost of theatre rental which can cost $800 or even more.

A donation of any size will help our project. The money you donate will go directly towards making our 3rd annual event possible and compensating our artists.  We appreciate your support, and we cannot do this without you!
