RicketySticks Dance-Theater, under the direction of choreographer Amy J Lambert, is a dynamic force in Seattle's arts community, blending concert dance and theater with unique storytelling. Born from the creative energy of AJnC Dance-Theater, RicketySticks invites audiences into a world where whimsy and introspection collide, exploring the absurdities of the human experience.
What We're Creating: We are preparing for an exciting, evening-length production, This is a Drama Comedy, which will premiere in March 2025 at 12th Avenue Arts. This independently produced show is the product of months of creative work and collaboration by a talented team of performers, designers, and artists. Featuring a cast of incredible artists—Rosemary Adams, Rose Amlin, Lucie Baker, Kara Beadle, Leva Braciulyte, Samantha Fabrikant, Aidan Hargreaves, Dahlia Levine, and Jenny Peterson—This is a Drama Comedy explores powerful themes of sacrifice, ritual, loneliness, community, and the intersection of tragedy and comedy. Tickets will go on sale on December 15, 2024.
Amy J’s Why Behind the Show: This show is deeply personal to me. I’ve been thinking about creating it since 2020, but life’s challenges and other responsibilities put it on hold for a while. There were moments when it felt easier to walk away, to not take on the financial risk and effort required to produce a full-scale show. But I know, in my heart, that abandoning this dream would never truly be easier. The world needs more human stories, live theater, dance, and especially comedy in the face of tragedy. If I can offer anything, it’s the joy of seeing something I’ve created that might resonate with others.
When I feel like I personally can’t make a big difference with all that goes on in the world, I know that making and sharing my art is something I can still offer. Art gives me hope and brings me joy. I hope this show will bring joy to someone, somewhere.
