School of Magic Arts plans to open our doors to more students through our fall fundraising campaign.  We have heard, time and time again, what a difference SOMA makes in the lives of our students.  How essential it has been for their confidence, focus, and social skills.  At the same time, we understand that not everyone is able to financially access our magic school, which is something that we’d like to change.

We’re starting small, as always.  If we meet our goal this time around, we will be able to offer scholarships to four students who would like to join our program, but are currently unable to.  It’s our hope that someday, we can move from “Magic for More!” to “Magic for All!” - but we will need help to make that happen.

Who are we?

At SOMA, our mission is not only to effectively teach stage magic, an art often overlooked by traditional performance-based schools, but also to build an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our students, families, and audiences.  Since 2017, when we opened as the Baltimore Academy of Magic, we think we’ve made a real difference in the lives of thousands of students who have passed through our doors, both virtually and otherwise. However, our work is far from over, and this is the next step to ensure SOMA is available to as many people who need it as we can make it.

What will we use the money for?

We believe that magic is strongest when it includes all gender identities, races, ethnicities, orientations, physical or mental abilities, and perspectives.  To honor our mission, we believe that we need to provide access to our programs to students who cannot currently afford to attend.  If we successfully fund this campaign, we will be able to offer scholarships to four students, who will attend SOMA free for their first semester.  It may not be much, but it’s a start.
