The cemetery where Mikey's childhood friend is buried
Introduction:
Safe in My Skin is writer/director Dylan Rizzo's forthcoming graduate thesis film, shot in New York State during Fall 2024.
Logline: Mikey, a Chinese American man, returns home to the small town he grew up in for a childhood friend’s funeral and confronts memories long buried.
This is a film about memory – how does our perception of the past change as we get older? When society encourages young men and boys to associate masculinity with power, it often comes at the expense of vulnerability. For Mikey, his friend’s passing forces him to face these harsh realities. As memories of youth flood his mind, he begins to reckon with his identity as the son of Chinese immigrants in the United States.
