We publish Asian voices that deserve to be heard, uncommon stories about personal and national histories, in order to "excavate" them and "to find in the ruins something of healing," as Jenifer Park, the co-winner of the 1st Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize, puts it eloquently in the video.

A literary non-profit based in New York City, Singapore Unbound advances Freedom of Expression and Equal Rights for All through literary exchange and activism. We're proud of our accomplishments this year.

  • 7th Season of Second Saturdays Reading Series, featuring Madeleine Thien, Gina Apostol, Jericho Brown, and Susan Choi, among others;

  • Lawrence Lacambra Ypil's The Experiment of the Tropics named 1 of 6 Must-Reads by The Millions;

  • Jenifer Sang Eun Park's Autobiography of Horse featured on Poetry Daily and selected for Paris Review Staff Pick;

  • Ricco Villanueva Siasoco's The Foley Artist: Stories published with fantastic recommendations by Alexander Chee and Jessica Hagedorn;

  • 2nd Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize won by Paula Mendoza, selected by Vijay Seshadri;

  • Poems, essays, interviews, and 24 book reviews published on SP Blog, including Shubigi Rao's Pulp II, Jing-Jing Lee's How We Disappeared, Sharmila Sen's Not Quite Not White, Marylyn Tan's Gaze Back, and Linda Collins's Loss Adjustment;

  • 3rd Singapore Unbound Fellowship awarded to emerging poet Ally Chua, enabling her to write in NYC;

  • Talk on "Countercultural Insurgency" at IPS-SAM, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy;

  • Campaign for Yale University to re-open investigation into the cancellation of "dissent" module at Yale-NUS, resulting in discussion at Yale Faculty Senate;

  • Weekly emails with opinions and news of human rights, books, and community events.

We are also asking for donations for next year's 4th Singapore Literature Festival in NYC. We have exciting plans to share with you soon, but for now enjoy the highlights of the last festival here.

We are aiming to raise USD10,000 in this end-of-year appeal. We can do so much with so little because Singapore Unbound is powered by passionate volunteers who believe in amplifying marginalized voices, fighting for our common rights, and speaking truth to power.

We also believe that authors, artists, and book reviewers should be paid for their work. All our events are open and free to the public. To maintain our independence, we do not apply for funding from the Singapore government. We can only continue doing the work that we do with your support.
