On a drive from Reno to L.A., during The Pandemic, I was caught in a freak snowstorm and I thought I was going to die.

But I didn’t. I decided to write about it. Now I’m performing it – as a one-man show - to tell the crazy, wild story of what happened. It’s called SNOW [black man. whiteout conditions.]

After decades in the the trenches of theater (having performed at The Guthrie, The Kennedy Center, and the American Repertory Theatre) I've been writing for TV (Tracker, God Friended Me, Stargirl) for more than a dozen years. (Find out more at www.harpercreates.com). It's time to step back on stage. Stretching myself is part of my mission on the planet, and, the existential crisis I went through on this drive makes for a visceral and vital story that is deeply relevant today. The show has had two readings (one in my living room and one at Vivid Stage in New Jersey), and has been given three performances in SoloFest, a one-person-show festival presented by PlayGround in San Francisco. Performances are January 31st, February 1st and 2nd in 2025 at Potrero Stage.

SNOW [black man. whiteout conditions.] is being presented in the style of “fringe” theater, which means they supply some essentials (venue, some personnel, some marketing), everything else is up to me. Those costs include hiring my amazing director, Cezar Williams, creating a poster and publicity, marshalling a team to help with producing the piece, rehearsal costs (space, props etc.), as well as getting myself to and from San Francisco and my housing and food when I’m there. This is how independent art gets made.

Our goal is to raise $15,000. The dates of our campaign are December 10 – January 10th. Your donation to the show will be tax deductible! You’ll get a tax receipt from Fractured Atlas. Yes, this is a time of year when donation opportunities are everywhere, and since the festival is coming up fast, this is the best window to raise funds for this one-of-a-kind event.

Help me tell this story that touches on life and death and explores questions of purpose and meaning. ANYTHING you contribute can make a difference. No amount is too small, really - whatever makes sense to you will have impact. Thank you.
