¿Quiénes somos? / Who are we?
We are Something from Abroad, an independent theater company started by a couple of broads from abroad.
Since 2016, we have actively worked to develop and support theatrical experiences that foster community for the love of art. We strive to provide a platform for different perspectives that we don't normally get to see, and we strongly believe this is why our work matters.
We are so proud to present productions in English, Spanish, and Spanglish that provide the immigrant Hispanic population in NY with a space to connect with their roots and culture. Seeing content in your mother tongue or about where you are from, makes theater feel like a home away from home.
2023 has been a great year...
In order to keep bringing you high quality shows, we need your support!
How YOU can help....
Your donation today, whether is $1 or $100 supports independent Latin American theater and a diverse company.
We are preparing our 2024 season, thinking outside the box, diversifying, looking for new ways to keep our work alive and with hopes that we can keep doing this for the perceivable future:
1-We are working on La Gaviota, an original adaptation of the classic by Anton Chekhov, set in Mexico during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.
2- Our annual Day of the Dead show that involves ofrendas, cempasuchil, music, poetry, singing...and pan de muerto y chocolatito for you!
3- We want to tour with Hamlet: La Telenovela.
4- We are planning to produce a set of workshops and open mic nights for our community.
We appreciate any donation you can give and your help sharing our efforts!
Happy Holidays
The Something from Abroad Team
