2026- WE'LL BE CELEBRATING 10 YEARS!

¿Quiénes somos? / Who are we?

We are Something from Abroad, an independent theater company made of people from abroad.

Since 2016, we have actively worked to develop and support theatrical experiences that foster community for the love of art. We strive to provide a platform for different perspectives that we don't normally get to see.

We are so proud to present productions in English, Spanish, and Spanglish that provide the immigrant population in NY with a space to connect with their roots and culture.

Seeing content in your mother tongue or about where you are from, makes theater feel like a home away from home and we strongly believe this is why our work matters.

2025 has been a great year...

A heartfelt thank you to our audience, patrons, family, and friends for making our 2025 season such a success!

This year, we had the pleasure of collaborating with CAST  Center for Advocacy, Support and Transformation in bringing Hamlet la Telenovela to their community in Long Island.

The Spanglish Affair Open Mic celebrated a year since its debut at Under St. Marks Theater, showcasing an incredible lineup of artists performing in Spanish, Spanglish, and English. This event now happens monthly, achieving this milestone was one of our goals for the year, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see it come to life!

As always, we are hosting the Día de los Muertos Festival, and participating with our signature performance, A Night with the Dead Cabaret happening this October 18th

Caroli Nolasco performing at the Cabaret

La Gaviota, a Mexican adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull  by Regina Romero and directed by Morgan Cunning had its first staged reading at Under St Marks theater with a wonderful group of artists.

As we look ahead to 2026, and reflect on 10 years since our inception, we are filled with hope and wonder about the future of the arts and the underrepresented communities we are privileged to serve: independent artists, immigrants, and Spanish-speaking creators among them. The support and resources we’ve received inspire us to continue uplifting these voices, empowering our team of artists, and sharing their vital work with the world. Together, we’re building a future where creativity and community thrive.

How YOU can help....

Your donation today, whether is $1 or $100 supports independent theater and a diverse company and helps us keep paying the artists.

With your donation you also help us afford the space, the crew, marketing, etc

We are preparing our 2026 season, thinking outside the box, diversifying, looking for new ways to keep our work alive and with hopes that we can keep doing this for the perceivable future:

1- Our Spanglish Affair Open Mic will continue to serve the Spanish speaking community on selected Mondays of each month.
2- Our annual Day of the Dead Cabaret that involves ofrendas, cempasuchil, music, poetry, singing...and pan de muerto y chocolatito for you will continue to celebrate our loved ones.
3- We are actively working on touring around the country with Hamlet: La Telenovela
4-
We are working on bringing a fully staged version of La Gaviota, an original adaptation of the classic by Anton Chekhov, set in Mexico during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.

We appreciate any donation you can give and your help sharing our efforts!
