Who We Are

Spoken Black Girl Publishing strives for equality and representation within the publishing and mental health and wellness industries by publishing the voices of Black women and women of color writers and providing affordable workshops, educational events, services, and empowering media with the purpose of breaking the mental health stigma in communities of color while leveling the playing field in publishing. It is our belief that all voices deserve to be heard, and our team is dedicated to bringing quality and value to our audience. Through stories that heal and create an outlet for marginalized voices to be heard, we hope to change the discourse on mental health while amplifying voices that often go unheard.

Spoken Black Girl Publishing works at the intersection of social good and media to spread information that is integral to the mental wellness of the next generation of Black women writers. The same challenges that stop Black women in other aspects of life such as racial discrimination and socio-economic challenges often stop access to mental health care as well as publishing options or opportunities to develop one's craft as a writer. Spoken Black Girl aims to make this information accessible and open up a new world of possibilities for emerging Black women writers. With this funding, we would be able to hire a full team of editors, designers, marketing professionals, and more who have already dedicated so much of their time and energy to the mission. We would also be able to fund new publishing books and magazines, which give Black women the opportunity to boost their careers in the literary field while also elevating their wellbeing.

How Your Contribution Helps

A Home for Black Women Writers

Big News! Spoken Black Girl is seeking a brick and mortar location that serves as a space for women of color entrepreneurs and creatives to gather for events, share resources, coworking space, library, a recording studio for podcasts and audiobooks, room for workshops, therapy, wellness studio space, and technical equipment to create.

SBG Creative Collaborators

From poets and writers to photographers and designers, Spoken Black Girl Issue 4: Freedom, is a product of hard work and love with the aim to uplift and inspire. Funds from this campaign will go toward supporting creatives and entrepreneurs involved in the production, many of whom have been impacted by the financial downturn resulting from COVID-19.

SBG Black Women Writers Fund

Spoken Black Girl pledges to give grants to Black Women writers in need. All Black women writers are eligible for these grants regardless of whether or not they are featured in the magazine or have been published by Spoken Black Girl.

Please indicate if you would like your donation to be earmarked for the Black Women Writers Fund.
Production Costs

Funds will also go toward the production costs associated with Spoken Black Girl Magazine and books published this year. Costs include design and creative work, printing, and shipping.

Help us meet our goal to publish 100  Black women writers by 2023!

This is our time to come together, show compassion, share knowledge, and inspire.
