This year, our team is presenting a staged reading of And the Trees Fall Down by Viviana Prado-Núñez on September 20th at The Flea. This year is also the 7th anniversary of when Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico, and while for some this may feel like a distant memory, Puerto Rico is still recovering and the impact of Maria is still felt by Puerto Ricans, even in the diaspora. Because of this, we feel it is important to continue to uplift stories like Viviana's.

Synopsis:
Two months after Hurricane Maria, a brother, a sister, and a tree guy gather at Abuela’s house in Puerto Rico for a Thanksgiving dinner of vodka, birthday cake, and an elegiac kind of nostalgia. A heartbreaking, hilarious, and deeply human portrait of people and places left behind—of trees threatening to fall down, tractors ascending to heaven, the never-ending whirr of generators, the dull ache of aftermath, and how some people live with it (or don’t).

How much do we need?
We have enough to cover about half of our budget, including insurance, fee for fireguard, printing, marketing, photography & videography and other small expenses. With this campaign, we are fundraising for:
  • $3,000: Stipends and fees paid to artists & production team
  • $1,000: Rehearsal space
  • $1,000: Performance space & Event space for fundraiser at The Flea

Don't forget to join our fundraiser!
On Thursday, September 12th we are hosting a fundraiser to (we hope!) close any existing gap we have left in this crowdfunding campaign. Please join us as we gather in community to honor all that we celebrate & grieve. Come sing, dance, build an altar, and learn more about Viviana's play and why it's important to us.

For friends attending our fundraiser:
If you feel drawn, please bring a token you would like to contribute to our community altar: a photo of a departed loved one, a poem, a book, a flag, or any token that reminds you of something you celebrate and/or mourn. Our community altar is a dedication to all that we celebrate and grieve; for Puerto Ricans, Latinx folks, and BIPOC, there is often an overlap in our lives and histories of both joy and mourning. May our altar be a space where you can hold space for both.
