ABOUT THE PROJECT:
As part of our premiere season, Synecdoche Dance Company will present Eclipse! at New Marigny Theater on November 10th, 2023 at 8pm. This collaboration between composer Miles Hancock and choreographer Jakki Kalogridis will feature live band, Night Leash, and a quartet of dancers that engage in a playful exploration and purposeful obfuscation extending beyond the annulus of a circular stage.
This conversation between movement and sound promises a surprising journey of cosmic outbursts and quiet intimacy. Hancock and Kalogridis effortlessly blend elements of pop-culture with the avant-garde. Gestures drawn from the daily onslaught of advertisements, movies, and social media are juxtaposed against deliberate abstractions of traditional Western dance technique. An absurdist thematic soundtrack serves as introduction to whimsical melody, virtuosic improvisation, and thoughtful dissonance.
The theme park pre-show boasts an eclipse-themed photo booth, a sensory station, out-of-this-world cocktails, and limited-edition Eclipse! merchandise.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
While this campaign is only $3500, our full budget for this season is $8000. $4400 of that goes directly to the artists involved! The remainder will be used for venue rental and rehearsal space, costumes, incidentals associated with the event (drinks, food, programs, etc), and startup costs to get our new organization up and running.
- For only $20, you can provide us with a place to rehearse for one evening.
- For a $100 donation, you are paying a dancer or musician for their performance during the night of the event.
- For a $250 donation, you can make sure that we have a venue for our dress-rehearsal or performance, or cover the cost of our lighting props for this performance.
The remainder of our budget comes to us primarily through ticket sales, and program advertisements. These streams of revenue are great, but aren’t always helpful with costs during the early part of a project. Your donation will make sure that our performers are paid on time, and that we are able to afford the rehearsal space and props needed to create Eclipse!
