TALKING WITH ANGELS : A remarkable true story about faith that transcends faiths.Hello!
I’m Shelley Mitchell and I’m in the middle of recording a new audiobook of Talking with Angels (Fifth Edition, 2020, Daimon Verlag). The concept is to make a theatrical recording, that sounds more like a radio play than a conventional audiobook.
This crowd funding campaign will help underwrite production costs, support the team helping me, and launch it on YouTube, Apple and/or Audible, so that others who are passionate about exploring their inner life can find it and enjoy it as a free listening experience.
A little bit of context:
I learned about Talking with Angels in the 1980s when it was first published in English. A friend loaned me her copy as a gesture of support because I shared with her that I was in the middle of an existential crisis.
She pitched Talking with Angels to me as the diary of a young Hungarian woman named Gitta Mallasz, who, in 1943, was living in Budapest with her three Jewish friends. She explained that they had a life-changing spiritual experience over a period of 17 months during the Nazi occupation of Budapest. She said that Talking with Angels was a personal account that they made to record all that they were learning. …I was skeptical yet intrigued.
Talking with Angels tuned out to be such a powerful force in my life that it paved the way for me to regain my voice and ease my way out the crisis I was in.
A number of years later, I met the publisher of Talking with Angels, and he kindly showed me three hours of video he had taken of Gitta Mallasz at 80 years old, as she was reflecting on her other worldly experience.
I was so inspired by watching her that I started working with the book and adapted it into a solo stage play, which I’ve performed hundreds of times at festivals, churches and small theaters in the United States and Europe; hence the idea of bringing elements of that performance into this new audiobook.
In addition to re-starting stage performances in 2023, I'm excited to release this audiobook because so many people, young and old, are on an independent spiritual path, and looking for inspiration and guidance they can trust as they find their own way forward, ...which is what Talking with Angels is all about!
So please hit the donate button, check out our rewards , we’ll be sharing clips from the audiobook on the
YouTube channel as we go along but most of all, your generous tax deductible donation will help bring this incredible message of hope and humanity and magic to life on-stage and online for many, many more people.
"This is a long way from The Diary of Anne Frank... The core of the memoir is the story of Mallasz's camaraderie with three Jewish friends (Mallasz was not Jewish) — one of whom received visitations from a series of "angels" offering psychic and spiritual counsel to the quartet as the Holocaust cut its swath across Europe. In the performance, Mitchell portrays the elderly Mallasz... a portrayal with such leisurely, lifelike timing,...Mitchell transforms into something between a dancer and a shaman. ..Its excruciating beauty derives from its simplicity, its purity and the veracity of its harrowing stories..." -LA WEEKLY
