Tango Illusion is a dance play, portraying the onstage and offstage lives of a troupe of Tango/Salsa dancers who nightly perform their show Fuego in New York City.

Tango Illusion’s dramatic tension centers around Tango dancer/ choreographer Elena who faces obstacles to keep the show going including her own addiction to Tango. Her dance partner/lover Claudio drinks, gambles, is volatile AND a producer wants new innovative numbers, yesterday! Claudio’s problems jeopardize both Elena’s and the company’s safety. Other company members experience this dynamic and take steps to support Elena. Will Elena make the right decisions, both personally and artistically to keep Fuego alive?

Tango Illusion offers immersive and interactive elements for the audience. From the moment audience members enter the building, they experience Tango visually, audibly and viscerally as they stroll through the tango sculpture garden and hall of confessions. To highlight their immersive experience, attendees have the opportunity to take a Tango class before the show, at intermission or after the show.

Interaction is at its best, when in Act II, the audience is invited to create a dance piece for the dancers. They choose the music, the costumes, and the final pose to develop a unique piece that the dancers then perform spontaneously. The conclusion of Tango Illusion gives audience members another opportunity to immerse themselves in this alluring dance.

Tango Illusion continues to move forward with significant progress since its early development. We have held two successful public table reads, using audience feedback to further develop the script and story, by playwright and choreographer Diane Lachtrupp Martinez. The project has attracted front money and investor support that made our Equity workshop possible. The Equity Workshop featured original music by Latin Grammy award winner Pablo Aslan.

We successfully produced the Equity workshop and created a professional video that can now be used as an important tool for continued development, fundraising, and industry outreach. You can watch our Equity Workshop video here:

We have expanded our producing team by joining forces with producer Dominick Balletta, owner of High Hard Heat, bringing additional professional theater and producing experience to our project. Along the way, we have developed a comprehensive pitch deck and investment budget, and we are currently working on building out our fundraising efforts through Fractured Atlas and seek a lead producer for our future production.

Bringing an original theatrical production from development to the professional stage takes more than creativity, it takes resources! Your contribution will help us continue developing Tango Illusion and move the production toward its next stage, including pre-production expenses, music licensing, marketing, cast, musicians and rehearsal fees and the many other expenses involved in creating a professional theatrical production.

Our vision is ambitious. We hope to see Tango Illusion on stages beyond New York City, with a future that includes Regional Theater, Off-Broadway, Broadway, and touring. But every production begins with people who believe in the magic!

Whether you are a lover of dance, theater, Tango, or simply believe in supporting original artists and new work, we invite you to become part of the Tango Illusion journey either by making a tax deductible donation through this Fractured Atlas website or by becoming an investor or co-producer. Please contact us for more information regarding investing or co-producing..

Your support doesn't just help fund a show, it helps give an original story a chance to be seen, heard, danced, and experienced. Together, we can bring the passion, addiction, beauty, and magic of Tango Illusion to life!
