A great start, in more ways than one...

Thank you to our first wave of supporters. Of course, this is about raising funds, but to our initial supporters, I am appreciative beyond words. You believe in what we're doing, and have backed that up with your hard-earned money. That will never be taken lightly.

I'm excited that the campaign has jumped off to such a good start. It gives me confidence in our mission, and that our ability to properly level up as planned, is fully within reach. As I get stronger, I'll be personally working hard to bring more founding donors into the mix, and may even have an extra gift for everyone who contributes this first round.

Right. About that last part. Perhaps most important, I'm writing this from home, as I am recovering nicely from the surgery I mentioned in the project description. Even more important, my daughter is recovering well also. We're hoping she comes home in the next day or two. So far, while recovery is as tough as one might imagine for the both of us, everything is working as expected and as hoped, so for those who had us in their thoughts and prayers, thank you. I am confident it has helped, and we are both truly appreciative.

This entire process has been surreal, but I have to say, I have been utterly inundated with love and support from family, friends, fans, and strangers, and for that I am truly humbled and grateful. To see that you all are helping launch the next chapter of The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy, really means the world to me. I appreciate each one of you greatly, and again, I pledge to not squander your efforts.

Please feel free to share the campaign -- social media is great, and if you know anyone in particular who you think would be down for the cause, nothing beats a personal one-on-one share.

Whatever you do, you've already solidified a special place in my heart, and in the annals of this organization's history. I am looking forward to sharing a prosperous and hip-hop-filled future with you all.

With love and respect,

Founding Director
The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy
At The Center for Hip-Hop Advocacy, our mission is to increase public understanding and awareness of hip-hop's important artistic and cultural contributions -- the kinds that are all-too-often overshadowed by hip-hop "entertainment."

We amplify the work of forward-thinkers who are impacting humanity in groundbreaking ways through innovative applications of hip-hop music, culture, and ethos -- in areas such as education, health and wellness, science and technology, the fine arts, politics and activism, as well as artistry.

We've self-funded this work for several years, to demonstrate our mission and our dedication.

Now it's time to level up.

With this initial drive, we are asking the public to assist us in growing our organization and building up our acclaimed programs.

We’ll continue our new #HipHopInnovates video series, which uses the power of the internet and social media to highlight the work of people and organizations improving humanity through hip-hop-fueled innovation.

We’ll build off of the original research we put out in 2015, helping establish irrefutable proof of hip-hop’s important influence in areas such as education and politics. That work not only helps validate the work of leaders in these fields but impresses upon those in power that hip-hop is much more than just a genre -- that its participants have unique perspectives and solutions to complex social problems

We will continue to partner with groundbreaking programs such as the award-winning News Beat podcast which mixes hard-hitting social justice journalism and incredible hip-hop music, the Hip-Hop Hacks initiative, which introduces young people to the world of computer science and programming through music, and academic institutions such as the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

We’ll host additional Hip-Hop Community Solution Cyphers, town-hall events which embrace the ingeniously creative disruption that hip-hop has always been known for, and applies it to the issues which plague our neighborhoods, cities, and the planet.

We will continue to create, curate, and share information through our "Hip-Hop Advocate" newsletter, which reports on the best of what hip-hop has to offer, how it is truly uplifting lives, livelihoods, and communities throughout the country and the world.

And we’ll continue to deliver you the highly acclaimed podcast series, Hip-Hop Can Save America!, which spotlights thought leaders and innovators utilizing hip-hop in all sorts of disciplines and fields, from education to technology, the fine arts to politics, health and wellness, and much more.

Some funds from this initial drive will be used to keep bringing our current content, newsletter and podcast projects to the public. A portion will be allocated for upcoming community solution cypher events, while a large portion will be dedicated to the grant acquisition process, so that we may increase funding and add to our programming, exponentially.

In this way, your contribution today will plant a vital seed that we are immediately going to water and nurture and grow.

And because you will be so much a vital part of this venture, everyone donating in this initial round will become a member of a special cohort of founding donors. You’ll be the first to hear of every bit of news, every new program, every new episode, every new milestone, and, we will be asking you, collectively, for advice and insight along the way, to make sure that the people who helped make this happen -- the people who recognize how much we need an institution that truly respects all of the amazing artistic, cultural, educational, and spiritual benefits that hip-hop brings to the world, that those people -- you -- remain a direct part of its success.

Please donate. It’s tax deductible. It’s for the people. It’s for the culture.
