We are an all women-identifying artist collective and produce purposeful interdisciplinary work inspired by ritual. Our collective is collaborative and non-hierarchical, and includes over 15 artists across different genres. The interdisciplinary work we present, the diverse artists we represent, and the community building nature of our work are what make us unique.

We present work that calls upon the roots of art itself, that inspire creators to look for deeper meaning within their form and their processes, all with the intention to manifest community. Women have been gathering with creative purpose since the beginning of humanity, and we use those traditions to inspire and empower the work we produce.

It Began With Friends & A Folk Opera...

Formerly called Daughters of Elysium, the collective was initially founded in 2014 when Melanie Rose Thomas joined forces with Katrina Mattson to produce The Cave: A Folk Opera at The Hollywood Fringe Festival. Melanie and Katrina called upon their friends to a woman-run company. Their goal was to produce work inspired by ancient ritualistic theatrical traditions that centered around woman-driven stories. The Daughters finished their time in Hollywood with an extended run and received multiple awards and recognition for the production.

After Hollywood, Daughters gathered in NYC in the Fall of 2016, this time alongside more women with a diverse range of talents. The artists’ mediums include performing, writing, poetry, filmmaking, visual arts, dance, directing, and more. With over 15 women artists, Daughters began producing events bi-monthly in NYC!

The events have included salon-style performances, concerts, play readings, theatrical productions, and fine art gallery shows. All of The Daughters events are rooted in ritual and feminism.

Now, we are beginning our SECOND season in NYC! We are producing larger scale events, including:

Limit Of The Tongue, by Magdalen Zinky (An original play trilogy inspired by Greek Mythology.) APRIL 27th-29th, 2018

The Cave: A Folk Opera, by Melanie Rose Thomas (The show that started it all! A highly poetic musical exploration of fairy tales.)
MAY 17th-20th, 2018

Daughters Tarot Card Deck designed by Rae Clarke Hendel (Cards will feature each of The Daughters!) Summer 2018

MONTHLY SALONS STARTING IN JUNE 2018 featuring a different Daughter and artistic medium every time!

"The Limit of the Tongue is the story of Margaux and Jaime: cousins, colleagues, and best friends— very best friends. Their tumultuous relationship is complicated and often suspect, not least by Margaux’s husband Alex, whom she married when she became pregnant with her daughter Callie. Now Callie is a teenager with her own burgeoning problems— the most pressing of which are her recent bi-polar diagnosis and her resulting new caretaker, the Shakespeare-spouting Helene. Further tangling the situation is the fact that Helene also happens to be Margaux’s student, brought into the family mix in exchange for Margaux overlooking a recent plagiarism offense. When Margaux discovers that she is again pregnant, it leads to a rift between herself and Jaime, one that may be too big to fix this time. Their emotional maelstrom threatens to undo the family entirely, exposing truths better left unspoken."
