This is a Fiscally-Sponsored Project

Fiscally Sponsored by Fractured Atlas

This production is the culmination of months of outreach, story circles, and workshops with boys (non-binary, trans, and cisgender) around Philadelphia, using theater-making methodology rooted in civic engagement. These boys will generate the material for the show; telling stories, enacting fantasies, composing original songs, and contemplating questions of desire and power.

A celebration of a new generation, BOY PROJECT asks: what does it mean to become a man in an era where gender is fluid and masculinity is often villainized? What definitions and boundaries remain? What imaginative proposals reveal themselves? The kids involved in the production will be the central content-creators, supported by a professional artistic team. Nell Bang-Jensen is the Lead Artist and Director and Matthew Armstead, Brad Wrenn, Johanna Kasimow and Eva Steinmetz will act as Co-Creators, creating a radically vulnerable and playfully generative space for Philadelphia boys.

All money raised will go toward artist stipends and materials for two week-long workshops in 2019.

Rewards

Sponsor Transportation!

Donate $10.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

Many of our community participants are coming from all parts of the city. We offer a transportation stipend to pay SEPTA fare or to subsidize gas costs. A $10 donation will help a community performer get to and from our workshops!

Sponsor a Community Performer!

Donate $25.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

Each performer is paid approximately $25 per rehearsal (and that doesn't even account for the 8 boxes of pizza!)

Sponsor Props!

Donate $75.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

During our Story Circles so far, boys have expressed interest in working with light sabers, shaving cream, and anime characters. A donation of $75 will make these performance explorations possible!

Sponsor Marketing!

Donate $150.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

Having promo photos, rehearsal footage, and a project trailer will help us reach the audiences and supporters (like you!) who will make this project possible. $150 pays a photographer or videographer for their time and labor at a workshop week.

Sponsor a Member of the Creative Team!

Donate $500.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

We have four theater professionals who are doing the administrative work in preparation for the summer and fall workshops. These creative team members will also participate in the workshops – making and performing alongside the boys. $500 pays for one of their workshop stipends.

Sponsor a Designer!

Donate $1,500.00 or more

Amount is fully tax-deductible.

We don't yet have the funds to hire a costume, set, sound, or lighting designer (that's where you come in!). $1,500 pays one designer for their time and labor, taking our discoveries from this year's workshops and turning them into a fully realized theatrical world.

Sponsor a Story Circle!

Story circles are community gatherings we are holding around Philadelphia to meet boys who may want to be involved and hear their personal experiences surrounding gender. Sponsoring a story circle means contributing to our space rental ($18/hour) and paying for snacks ($12).
