On October 22, we learned that our production of Kallan Dana's RACECAR RACECAR RACECAR, directed by Sarah Blush, could no longer take place at The Connelly Theater, which announced that it would cease operations immediately due to a change in leadership at the Catholic Church. We mourn the loss of The Connelly, which for ten years supported ambitious works of independent theater and the artists who made them.
FINDING A NEW HOME FOR RACECAR
After a week of tumult and uncertainty during which the theater community rallied around us with incredible speed and generosity, we're very excited to share that we've found a new home for RACECAR at A.R.T./New York Theatres. We'll be in the Mezzanine Theatre, a beautiful, state-of-the-art venue in Midtown West.
We're so excited to produce RACECAR at A.R.T./New York Theatres. The Hearth has never produced a show of this scale at a venue of this caliber. Our team cannot wait to take advantage of all that the Mezzanine has to offer in order to create a stunning and memorable show for you to enjoy.
Moving to this larger space will also take a huge financial toll on The Hearth. Even with a generous discount from A.R.T./New York, the Mezzanine costs nearly twice as much as the Connelly Theater Upstairs. This bigger theater, which is almost twice the size of the Connelly Theater Upstairs, will also require more labor to move risers; hang lights and speakers; and build a larger set. And, the bigger space will cause us to incur higher costs for equipment rentals and set materials.
All told, we'll need at least $10,000 in additional funding to support this move and create a production whose scale and quality match those of our new space.
We've officially launched our campaign to raise $10,000 by our load-in on December 1. If you’re able to donate to help us realize RACECAR at the Mezzanine, we’d be so grateful.
You can also support RACECAR by sharing this campaign on social media, tagging @thehearthco, and using #RacecarAtARTNY.
