This is a Fiscally-Sponsored Project

Fiscally Sponsored by Fractured Atlas

On May 26-29, 2023, the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School will present our 11th tango festival.  This festival will distinguish itself in two ways:

  • This festival is organized around a central theme: IMPROVISATION in tango dance and music.  The festival will include workshops, practicas, concerts and lectures that deepen our experience and skills as improvisers, and help us awaken ever-greater possibilities for being, and inventing, in the moment.  And we'll have plenty of time to put these skills to use at nightly milongas.

  • The Philadelphia Tango Festival will produce and present a new album, the first album by the Tipica Messiez Tango Orchestra.  Half of the album will be new compositions; half of the album will be original arrangements.

As in all of our previous iterations, the festival will present world-renowned dancers who are particularly known for their teaching ability and their investment in their students.  The 2023 festival will be co-headlined by:

  • Octavio Fernandez & Corina Herrera
  • Cecilia Garcia & Serkan Gokcesu

The festival will also include Martin Enos, teaching a beginner track, and Nick Wallach, teaching the Argentine folkloric dances of zamba and chacarera.

As in 2022, the festival will include LIVE MUSIC EVERY NIGHT, including both seated concerts and extremely danceable live music during the milongas.  We are incredibly honored to be able to present some of the best tango musicians and bands currently performing, many of whom are traveling from Buenos Aires to be part of the festival:

  • The Tipica Messiez Tango Orchestra, directed by Emiliano Messiez
  • Juan Villarreal & Patricio Crom
  • The Horacio Romo - Pablo Agri - Emiliano Messiez trio
  • Hugo Satorre

The festival will include a rich variety of offerings for tango lovers of all ages and abilities, including dancers at all levels, musicians at all levels, and the general public.

Why to Give

Simply put, we need you.  The festival can't cover its expenses on ticket sales alone.  Please consider partnering with us to make this wonderful event possible and to bring so many incredible artists to the United States (9 of the featured artists will be here on artist visas sponsored by the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School!).

Thank you for considering partnering with us to make the festival possible!  Please check out the cool perks available for donors!  And if there's something else you could imagine wanting as a perk, please let us know and we'll try to make it happen!
