Oh World, Goodnight is an album featuring the two works by Composer Derek David, performed and recorded by the renown Del Sol Quartet with clarinetist Nicholas Davies (Colorado Symphony). The central work, a 54 minute-long journey for clarinet quintet was commissioned by the Rossini Club in 2022, and is an intimate reflection shaped by the anxiety and uncertainty of an ever-destabilizing world. A deeply personal work, the piece invites listeners into a space where vulnerability and despair coexist. The second work, Derek’s String Quartet No. 4 “Kaddish”, incorporates Yiddish folksongs into the form of a prayer of mourning for all peoples.
We are seeking to raise
$9,000 to support a professional recording of
Oh World, Goodnight, with the quintet recording starting in April and subsequent recording sessions held in Boston and San Francisco. This project brings together
Del Sol Quartet and
Rossini Club, two chamber music organizations committed to amplifying contemporary voices and expanding access to chamber music for all audiences.
Your support directly sustains the artists and makes this project possible. Contributions will fund the audio engineering (recording, mixing, mastering) musicians’ recording fee, travel and transportation, venue rental costs, and album release costs. Even a modest gift has impact — $200, for example, supports a full day of recording for one musician.
As a token of our gratitude, we are pleased to offer the following donor rewards:
- $2,000 — Private Rossini Club concert (Colorado or Massachusetts based) and Album Producer co-Credit.
- $500 — Composition lesson with the composer, Derek David
- $250 — Signed score of Oh World, Goodnight
- $50 — Copy of the album
- $25 — Personalized thank-you note from the artists
All tiers $50 and above will receive a copy of the album and a personalized thank-you note. Thank you for helping us bring this project to life and for supporting a more accessible and vibrant future for contemporary music.
With gratitude,
Rossini Club & Derek David
