This is a Fiscally-Sponsored Project

Fiscally Sponsored by Fractured Atlas

In the last five years, The Syndicate has:

  1. Produced six new plays: Civility!; Well Job, Gertrude; Hot Belly; Another Jungle (a co-production with Cloudgate Theatre); Bluets; and Tiny Errors at the End of the Millennium;
  2. Developed women, queer, and trans playwrights’ work, through readings of Graceful Exit by Alanna Coby, Bare Foot by Ellenor Riley-Condit, Hot Belly by Diana Lynn Small, The Beasts of Warren by Azure D. Osborne-Lee, Hunting by Nelle Tankus, and the desert play (or Nothing Feels Like) by Hal Cosentino;
  3. Funded artists’ first steps on ambitious projects through First Read and our Incubator Fund;
  4. Worked across borders through four iterations of Long Distance, in South Carolina, California, New York, and The Hague;
  5. Collaborated with dozens of brilliant artists and producers through residencies at IRT, Juniata College, the Chicago Performance Lab, the Drama League, Mabou Mines/Suite, the Brick, and SITI Lab.

In 2019, The Syndicate will:

  1. Produce our second run of Bluets, our adaptation of Maggie Nelson’s book about falling in love with the color blue;
  2. Center the work of trans and nonbinary artists through our second-annual First Read program, coming to Chicago this June;
  3. Begin a new ensemble/playwright collaboration, with a workshop coming to NYC in fall 2019;
  4. Keep building our intersectional feminist producing model, in which our company shares the resources we have with diverse artists whose work we believe in;
  5. Recruit more co-conspirators-- because we’re growing, and we need your help.

You’ve helped us make it to five years, a big accomplishment for a little company. Thank you for getting us this far. We hope to see you in New York or Chicago this season! Here’s to the next five years.

In gratitude,

Alanna (NYC),

Elle (Chicago),

Jackie (NYC),

Janouke (the Hague),

Leigh (Pennsylvania), and

Megan (NYC).

Ahhh... general operating funds. Those elusive dollars that help us pay for our Quickbooks account, membership to ART/NY and NET, web hosting, fees for being Fractured Atlas members, our Zoom account for online meetings, and stipends for the leadership team. If you feel drawn to giving to the General Operating line, you are an unsung hero. But Co-Artistic Director Megan will sing your praises by giving you a resounding high five, either in person or digitally, depending on how far you live from NYC. Expected Delivery: August 2019.
