Who are we?

Theatre Artemisia, founded in 2024 by Kiran-Durae Lambert and Broadway artist Jennifer Little, is a new feminist theatre company focused on highlighting women's stories and stories of marginalized communities.

Our company is composed of dedicated and driven professional actors and designers,  including Eric Niece, Brian Ogden, and Stephanie Buck. You can learn more about us here.

"Slaying Holofernes" is our inaugural show.

What is "Slaying Holofernes"?

Slaying Holofernes
is a compelling, true-life account of the court trial involving 16th century painter Artemisia Gentileschi and her sexual assaulter, Agostino Tassi. The trial explores the issues of victim blaming as accounted through the court transcripts of 1612, and forces audiences to reflect on modern day parallels.

Has the #MeToo movement moved the needle forward at all? Is the woman still forced to relive and testify under duress, while her attacker sits in relative comfort - only in court because he failed to make her "legitimate" through the social construct of marriage?

Slaying Holofernes is both explosive and demanding. It explores women's strength when banding together against a patriarchal system that works feverishly to keep their voices out of both the judicial and professional worlds. Mixing metaphor and life; this is a new piece not to be missed.
