Theatre Artemisia, founded in 2024 by Kiran-Durae Lambert and Broadway artist Jennifer Little, is a new feminist theatre company focused on highlighting women's stories and stories of marginalized communities.

"Everything You Need To Know About Abortion" is our second show.  

Commissioned by the Miranda Family Fund, EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ABORTION IN ONE HOUR OR LESS, is a new play by The Wish Collective - playwrights Justice Hehir, Dena Igusti, Phanésia Pharel, Nia Akilah Robinson, and Julia Specht –  with the commitment to make important art accessible to all in partnership with, and through, The Wish Collective. 

Originally set in an Oklahoma high school in December 2023, EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ABORTION IN ONE HOUR OR LESS tells the story of an educator ready to retire decides on her last day she is going to educate high school students about medicated abortions, crisis pregnancy centers, and how to be a caring companion to someone having an abortion. Acknowledging she's in a ban state, with consent from her students, she locks them inside their auditorium, and risks it all by providing links and resources for safe and effective abortions.

Theatre Artemisia has updated and adapted this original work, with permission from the Wish Collective and the Miranda Family Fund, to reflect the quickly and ever-changing political landscape dominating women's rights and women's access to safe and effective health care and family planning. Our production is set in a modern Detroit classroom, highlighting not only the differences in Michigan courts legal stance on abortion versus the 14 other states where abortion is not only banned, but criminally prosecuted; but also reflecting how delicate our rights and access are here in Michigan, especially during a midterm election cycle. 

We have partnered with Matrix Theatre in Detroit, MI for this performance. But even still, putting on a show is an expensive task. Through your donation to our project, you will help us fund not only the venue to perform this electric new piece - but also help us provide the costumes, props, and set pieces that are needed to bring a story like this alive. Funds will also go to marketing our show, which is essential to getting an audience in the door.

In addition, we will be providing access to family planning resources for our audiences members to leave with. We hope to educate and inspire our community to be able to comfortable and knowledgeably talk about abortions, comfort someone who might be considering or recovering from an abortion, and at the very least know the difference between real medical help and scams.
