Too Many Dead Birds on the Sidewalk is a historical drama written by Aleyna Karaca and directed by Emma Shafer. It will be receiving an off-Broadway production at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater on July 15th and 17th, as part of SheNYC’s Summer Theater Festival.  

What if you saw a dead bird fall from the sky…but no one else did? 

It’s 1955, and Edith Newcomb is hosting a cocktail party to celebrate her husband’s promotion within the Atomic Energy Commission. Despite a worsening thunderstorm, unruly guests, and the sudden arrival of her husband’s former sweetheart, Edith is keeping the evening well under control—until a dead bird drops from the sky. Meanwhile, stolen data exposing the effects of the AEC’s nuclear testing threatens to surface. As bird after bird falls, Edith is left to determine what’s real and what isn’t, and who--or what--to trust.

The play will be presented as a fully staged production performed as part of SheNYC’s Summer Theater Festival, NYC’s premiere festival showcasing new, original works by women, trans, and non-binary writers and composers. The performances will be held at the  Lynn F. Angelson Theatre with a minimum of two showings, with the potential to add a third. We desire to take advantage of this opportunity to present the piece not only to the public, but to potential agents and producers.
