Transient Canvas is about to take on its biggest season yet with the release of our second album, launch of our second annual Composition Fellowship, touring over seven states, and more! We need your support to make this season a huge success!
About Us and our 2018-19 Season!
Praised by the Boston Globe as "superb",
Amy Advocat and
Matt Sharrock have been blazing their own trail as the bass clarinet/marimba duo
Transient Canvas since 2011. In that time they have premiered over 80 works and continue to perform across the United States and abroad.
The 2018-19 season features over 20 performances, 10 educational events, commissions by
Jennifer Jolley and
Osnat Netzer, a new OPERA by
Daniel Felsenfeld, our second annual Composition Fellowship program, and the release of our second album,
Wired, on New Focus Recordings!
We need your support to cover album costs, Composition Fellowship stipends, and other overhead fees for the 2018-19 season.
What We Need
Wired is recorded, edited, mastered, and set for release on New Focus Recordings on November 2nd. The album features electroacoustic works by powerhouse composers
Kirsten Volness,
Peter Van Zandt Lane,
David Ibbett,
Lainie Fefferman,
Mischa Salkind-Pearl, and
Dan VanHassel. Your support will help us cover the label costs, distribution, design, shipping, and more.
We are very passionate about finding new compositional voices, but we've reached the point where we can't keep up with all of the young composers who contact us every year. That's why we started our annual
Composition Fellowship, which is a paid opportunity open to three composers to work with us throughout the season on new pieces to be premiered in the Spring.
This year the Composition Fellowship is back and better than ever! Applications are now open to composers of all ages from all locations. As always, the application is free and easy. This year's fellowship program and accompanying concert is funded in part with grants from The Amphion Foundation and the Alice M Ditson Fund. However, the project will not be fully funded without your support.
Breakdown of Funds Needed:
- Wired: CD Label Fees = $1800
- Wired: 1000 CD + Distribution = 1000
- Wired: CD Design = $700
- Stipend for one Composition Fellow = $1000
- Composition Fellowship Concert Venue = $1500
- Other fees: shipping, Fractured Atlas fees, etc: $500
Total = $6000
What You Get
Your support will help us promote the work of living composers, and help continue to build our reputation as an established contemporary ensemble.
As a thank you, you'll get our new album, Wired, or our debut album, Sift -- your choice! Or both! Give a little and get a "high-five" on social media or give more and get a shout-out on our website and concert programs. Perhaps you've always dreamed of having Transient Canvas serenade you at your home? Now's your chance to have "the band" perform live in your living room to the delight of your friends and fellow fans! Your donations will be considered tax deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas.
Risks & Challenges
Our first album, Sift, was an enormous success. We received rave reviews on I Care if You Listen, The Clarinet journal, Percussive Notes, Klang New Music, and more! We were thrilled to have had so much support for the album - especially from those of you who contributed to our first fundraising campaign. Unfortunately, we did not stick to our original timeline for the editing / mastering schedule and had to keep you all waiting.
We learned a lot from the first album! This time around, we were lucky to have had support from The Boston Foundation, allowing us to fund all of the recording, editing, and mastering of the first album. The album is done and we have secured a Nov 2 release date - and we plan to stick to it!
