Typed Out Productions is raising money for their production of an original play, Mackenzie McBride's A Lovely Damaged Quality. The play raises awareness for an important issue: suicide and the complexities surrounding it. The show hopes to further the conversation on suicide prevention and help others cope with their own experiences by providing an in-depth exploration of a difficult subject. A Lovely Damaged Quality will premiere at NY Summerfest Theater Festival in August 2018.
About the Show
In A Lovely Damaged Quality, Jody descends into the dark depths of her imagination as she tries to make sense of her father's suicide. Overwhelmed with grief, she finds herself in a chaotic and magical world where her dad still lives inside of the pages of her notebook, a mysterious old woman throws snowballs at her, and her mother has turned into a pile of cashmere sweaters.
About the Playwright
Mackenzie McBride grew up in southeast Michigan and is now a Brooklyn based playwright and teaching artist. She is a graduate of Florida State University where she received her BA in Theater in 2011. Mackenzie's plays have been produced by Taksu Theater Co., ESPA at Primary Stages, Durango Arts Center, NY Indie One-Minute Play Festival, and Typed Out Productions, and No Dominion Theater Co. Most recently, her play The Telling and Re-Telling of Lucy and Owen was featured as a part of the Playhouse on Park New Reading Series in West Hartford, CT and her play A Lovely Damaged Quality received a staged reading as a part of No Dominion Theater Company's Theater in the Heights new play series. This past summer Mackenzie was an artist in residence at Marble House Project in Dorset, VT.

The Impact
By presenting this incredible work to the audiences at NY Summerfest, Typed Out aims to start an important dialogue about suicide. The more people we can get talking about this issue, the more people can be helped and know they are not alone. It is important that we remove the element of shame that goes hand-in-hand with suicide and its aftermath, and that is why we are so passionate about presenting this play in a full production for the NY Summerfest community.
