So I wrote a Black Gay Rom-com, set on a college campus and both romantic leads will be Black.
Set in a Southern college town where football is religion, Greek letters are social currency, and tradition runs deep, old ideas about race, sexuality, and respectability still linger in the very traditions students are taught to celebrate.
This movie follows Malachi Brown, a nerdy, ambitious, but painfully awkward Black gay transfer student determined to reinvent himself. Having spent his life feeling invisible, he is set on joining the right organizations to reach the top of the campus’s social hierarchy and finally become somebody. Then he meets Jalen Jones, a charismatic, openly gay, Black D1 football player. Having a place on a top SEC team and in one the most powerful fraternities on campus, Jalen is everything Malachi wants to be.
However, as Jalen is forced to confront who he is outside of the identity that has been built for him, he and Malachi begin an unlikely romance. But when a secret from Jalen’s past surfaces and Malachi finds himself entangled in a campus scandal, the two are pulled through the messy world of college life—Greek life, campus politics, friendship breakups, and betrayal.

Why This Film?
I love romantic comedies. I love the meet-cute. I love the awkward first conversations. I love the butterflies, the heartbreak, and the moment when two people give into their feelings for each other.
But Black gay characters never get these stories.
I wanted to make a coming of age where the Black gay characters get to be deeply human - anxious, unsure, ambitious, funny, lovable, and romantic.
Not DL.
Not self-hating.
Not the "gay best friend."
If We Go Beyond Our Goal
If we exceed out goal, additional funds will go directly towards making the finished film stronger. As you may know $600,000 is a tight budget for a feature film and additional funds would allow us to expand our crew, cast, productional days, stronger post production, marketing, and distribution.
But our first priority is making the movie.
Be part of the film
