OUR MISSION:Verdant Vibes is a new music collective and concert series based in Providence that brings together artists and musicians creating new work in a variety of genres and media, acoustic and electronic. By highlighting the diversity of music composition and performance of our time, we seek to eschew perceived boundaries, cross-pollinate ideas and influences, and build a greater community celebrating the work of living artists. Verdant Vibes' most recent performance in January 2021 featured
live digital performance of electroacoustic music for chamber ensemble, composed specifically for the current way of our world. The entire performance, featuring music by Sally Ann Duke, Iman Habibi, and Marcel Zaes, was performed in real time over Zoom, and streamed to
YouTube and
Facebook.
The ensemble's
interdisciplinary artistic projects have featured collaborations with the profound spoken word artist
Christopher Johnson, and performances of pieces like
Matthew Azevedo's electronic
Tapestry, in the resonant stairwell of Mathewson Street Church. Verdant Vibes'
community engagement is also of note, performing fundraisers for
Habitat for Humanity and
Manton Avenue Project, and presenting workshops to students aged 8–18+ and plan to hold another one with
Community MusicWorks later this year.
With the support of individuals, local businesses, and grants, we have played music by over 60 composers and invited almost as many guest artists to join us. We have performed at places like New Music Gathering, PVDFest, Columbus Theater, Southside Cultural Center, and Newport's Firehouse Theater. We document these performances for your enjoyment and to help the artists promote their work on our
Vimeo channel.
In our sixth season, we continue to expand our collaborations with composers and guest artists, presenting some of today's most exciting chamber music and multimedia performance. With your support, we can build upon what we have accomplished and help new music continue to flourish in our community.
There are so many connections between art forms and ideas that, in making these worlds collide, we hope to find a greater whole than the sum of parts, and a greater community with it.
While we rely upon donations to produce concerts and employ artists, any kind words shared about our work, future plans, and fundraising efforts are invaluable as well. And we'd love to see you at a concert soon!
