Do you remember how it felt the first time you found an old friend on Facebook? Or the first time you wondered about a question, and then realized you could turn to Google for an answer? Or when Twitter empowered a fight for independence during the Arab Spring protests?

For years, tech promised us a long-awaited future. A future where constant communication meant that anything was possible, where societal problems were solved with unlimited resources, and where a wealth of information finally leveled the playing field. In short, tech promised us that our dreams could, actually, come true. 

I think it’s safe to say that isn’t really how things turned out. 

The Whole Sky All Diamonds is a story that re-immerses us into that feeling, taking audiences back to a time when that promise was still alive in the world of tech. The audience joins the imagined tech company, Füfl, as a wave of onboarded employees, set to shadow one of 6 core Füfl team members as they join a company that is utterly certain it will change the world. As these six employees intersect in interweaving narratives, their own dreams begin to surface: each a story of heartbreak, desire, resentment, and betrayal. 

Inspired by the playwright’s real-life experiences at Google, adapted from the world of Chekov’s perennial masterpiece Uncle Vanya, and crafted by immersive veterans from Sleep No More and The Death of Rasputin, The Whole Sky All Diamonds is a new immersive theatrical event about the lost dreams we’re afraid to admit to ourselves, the realization that our belief in tech may have been misguided, and the pain of knowing it might be too late to stop it.

Oh, and it’s a comedy. 

One of the beautiful—and challenging—things about immersive theatre is that you can't fake the world. The audience isn't looking at it from a distance; they're standing inside it. They're opening drawers, wandering hallways, overhearing conversations, and following characters into spaces that have to feel completely alive. That kind of storytelling depends on thousands of thoughtful details, from production design and props to costumes, sound, projections, and the incredible artists who bring it all together. And those details depend on the resources and funding our production is able to raise. Every donation will go directly toward creating an environment that feels as rich, specific, and alive as possible—allowing our audience to lose themselves in the world of tech optimism and, together, find their way through it.
