Orpheus's Descending begs us to rescue again and again the best parts of ourselves. Tennessee Williams was a master at exposing our historical strengths and failings as a nation. He forced us to look at and confront our ugliest drives and intents as well as our most poetic exalted aspirations. An effort we need repeated individually and collectively, as a course of habit to ensure we make headway.
It's astounding to me how relevant this play is to our present times. It exposes the darkest agenda we all now being forced to confess, if we want a shot at collectively healing, redemption and transformation for our nation. Revisiting such artistic pieces, takes us through a process that pushes us out to the other side. It does for me, anyway. And, I know if it helps me do so, it can for us all.
