About

Music you don’t just hear— Hailes is creating experiences you live, move through, and become.

Living Room is a new live music residency created by Hailes as part of the broader Acts of Becoming initiative. While Acts of Becoming explores immersive and multidisciplinary approaches to music and storytelling, Living Room serves as its ongoing live performance platform—bringing artists and audiences together in an intimate listening-room environment centered on musicianship, community, and collaboration.

Acts of Becoming
is a multidisciplinary arts initiative that reimagines traditional music releases as immersive, cross-disciplinary experience. Integrating original music, theater, dance, film, and visual arts, the project explores themes of identity, transformation, and resilience through emotionally resonant storytelling.

Rooted in original music, each release unfolds across performance, visual art, literature, and film—transforming sound into story and albums into living, collaborative installations.

On August 5th, Acts of Becoming comes to life through its first live expression: a one-night-only concert at Kansas City’s historic Blue Room inside the American Jazz Museum. This intimate performance by Hailes merges soul, R&B, and jazz with theatrical storytelling and local collaboration—offering audiences a powerful, genre-blending experience rooted in cultural pride and creative excellence.

Our mission is to make the performing arts more accessible, build sustainable ecosystems for independent artists, and challenge outdated music industry norms by centering ownership, collaboration, and community. Acts of Becoming is a blueprint for a new model—one where art isn’t just consumed, but lived, shared, and co-created. We exist to close the gap between art and access, community and commerce—redefining what it means to release music, own your story, and thrive independently.

The project is led by Lindsey Hailes, a multidisciplinary artist, songwriter, and performer with Broadway and national tour credits, including the Tony Award-winning musical Hadestown. Lindsey’s artistic practice bridges music composition, movement, theater, and visual storytelling, with original music placements for brands like Lululemon. With a foundation in both professional performance and grassroots collaboration, her work merges high art with community-rooted narrative—centering Black, queer, and independent voices.
