Good Matter (fka Acts of Becoming)
Good Matter is the multidisciplinary creative ecosystem of singer, songwriter, and artist Hailes, a Kansas City-born, New York City–based performer whose work blends music, storytelling, visual art, and live experience. A former Broadway performer in the Tony Award–winning musical Hadestown, Hailes creates emotionally resonant work that explores identity, transformation, and human connection.
At the center of Good Matter is Acts of Becoming, a multidisciplinary arts initiative that expands traditional music releases into immersive experiences integrating original music, theater, dance, film, and visual storytelling. Each project is designed to move beyond the album format, creating opportunities for audiences to engage with art through multiple mediums and perspectives.
Extending from this work is Living Room by Hailes, an ongoing live music residency that brings together local and national artists in intimate, community-centered performances. Designed as an alternative to traditional concert experiences, Living Room prioritizes collaboration, musicianship, and meaningful connection between artists and audiences.
In June 2026, Hailes will present an original large-scale performance at the FIFA Fan Festival Kansas City, further expanding Good Matter's mission of creating immersive artistic experiences that bridge music, performance, and community engagement.
Through Good Matter, Hailes is building sustainable pathways for independent artists while creating work that invites audiences not just to witness art, but to participate in it. The project's mission is to make the arts more accessible, foster creative collaboration, and develop new models for how artists can connect with communities through transformative cultural experiences.
