Aesop's Sound Fables is an arts organization bringing FREE or affordable interdisciplinary arts events to communities in NYC.
Founded by Mike Nowotarski, the first Aesop's show was in December of 2023 at a popular venue for underground music called Purgatory. A quartet of musicians performed a semi-improvised live score to a silent film from 1923 called Salomé. The show was sold out and lead to a series of successful silent film scoring events.
In September of 2024, we are debuting a new piece titled "There Are No Real Endings! (Are Just a Beginning)" at a free concert in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The piece was written to be performed as a live score to a sunset and is the first in a series of environmentally themed pieces that interact directly with the natural world.
Our goal in the coming year is to find funding for collaborations with filmmakers, dancers, actors, and musicians in public parks, plazas, and community spaces in NYC. Our dream is for a city overflowing with public art and performances by local New Yorkers.
