Aesop's Sound Fables started about a year ago with a sold-out performance of an original score to Salomé, a silent film from 1922, at a bar in Bushwick. Since then, we've organized a total of 7 low cost, or entirely free, performances at which local musicians write and perform soundtracks to silent films, physical theater, and nature in NYC.

In the coming year, we are planning to expand our programming by partnering with local arts and environmental organizations. Our goal is to put on unique shows in public spaces that are both free for audience members and that pay artists a living wage. Our organizational leaders draw on their years of experience in DIY spaces to create special communities built around music and art.

This initial 1,000 dollar goal of ours will cover some of our early start-up costs and increase the number of grants that we are eligible to apply for. These early expenses include, but are not limited to, NYC event permits, staff, and pay for artists.

2025 Free Performance Series

We have a goal of putting on a series of at least 4 free performances this coming year in public spaces in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  These include an Earth Day event, a summer solstice event, a late summer arts festival, and a Halloween film scoring.

This will provide a budget of $250/event that breaks down in the following way:

$25 Event Permit
$75 Marketing
$150 Pay for 2 Musicians

While this alone is not sufficient for the three events, it provides a foundation that will enable us to partner with other local community organizations and make our creative dreams a reality.

Earth Day, April 2025

We have been working on a piece to be presented on Earth Day 2025 that explores the journey of.a single drop of water from its birth in the Adirondack Mountains, down through the Hudson River, into the East River, and out to New York Harbor.

Using field recordings we explore the different experiences this water droplet undergoes as its environment transforms. In doing so, we hope to heighten our audience's awareness of New York's waterways.

We further hope to expand the awareness of our community by partnering with local environmental organizations working to clean up New York's waterways and expand access for people. This fundraiser will help create a foundation to make this work possible.
