The Story
Set in a golden era nightclub, All the World's a Stage follows a songstress crumbling under the weight of societal pressures, job expectations, home life, and romantic life, who ultimately has to make a choice. Despite altering both her appearance and demeanor in a relentless bid to satisfy everyone, the audience gradually disperses, leaving her to finish her performance to what she believes is an empty room. The last few bars reveal one single pair of fixated eyes remaining: those of her young daughter.

Why This Story Now?
Woman are asked to play many roles in society throughout their lives, and at a certain point these roles will be in dichotomy with each other. Lover, Virgin, Wife, Mother, Leader, Activist and so forth. This film asks the questions, at what point does a woman stop seeking external validation and come back to herself? What roles are self-inflicted and which are self-chosen? Does a woman have to meet societal expectations, or are her own expectations enought?

This short musical film allows the Songstress to ask herself these questions-- and ultimately she chooses what's most important to her. We hope to ignite a conversation around the unrealistic expectations placed on women, and to bolster the need for validating self-worth in girls and women based on their intellect, spirit, talent and integrity- over their external selves.
