About

This funding will support the multidisciplinary artistic practice of theatre artist and educator Ally Thomas. Her work centers care and compassion for folks of all body shapes, sizes, and abilities with a focus on fat liberation and accessibility.

Ally creates and performs nostalgic stories about unapologetic authenticity. Her solo play Karen & Cass is a memoir weaving her journey toward body activism with stories of musicians Karen Carpenter and Cass Elliot. Karen & Cass was most recently seen at the Tampa International Fringe Festival in 2022. Other original work has been presented at The Tank and The Kraine Theatre in NYC. She has acted with American Stage, Tampa Rep, Mill Mountain Theatre, and Hollins Playwright Lab.

She fosters community through her work as a director and teaching artist. Whether in the classroom or rehearsal room, her focus on ensemble building creates a space where students know they have stories worth sharing. Recent teaching residencies include: Florida Rep, American Stage, Sarah Lawrence College Civic Engagement and NYC Department of Education (ArtsConnection, Children's Museum of the Arts)

She earned an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College, a BA in Theatre from Samford University, and a Graduate Certificate in New Play Performance from Hollins University.
