This project puts practicing artists, visual technologists, and young people growing up with AI in charge of how visual AI systems are built, using radical transparency to open up tools that are usually closed and corporate-owned. It extends existing open-source and open-weight visual AI dataset and model work to these communities, so access to AI knowledge stops depending on money, resources, or prior technical training. Alongside the technical work, it builds programming in critical visual culture studies, where participants learn by making and using these tools themselves and help shape AI infrastructure on their own terms.
