About

Puppets, dolls, and other objects open a window to understanding the "uses for enchantment" in our lives. They allow the audience to engage with their imaginations, which eases them into enchantment. Children have the inherent ease to trust the world of imagination which connects humans to truth and happiness. ALVA PUPPET THEATER encourages adults to suspend their attachment to realism and open themselves to seeing history through a surrealist lens. Through the intersection of puppetry, material/object, performance, ritual, and actor theater, the work of ALVA PUPPET THEATER reveals the wonderment and cultural impact of historical epochs and characters. ALVA PUPPET THEATER deliberately centers the narratives around women in general and presents the repressed emotional truth of African-American women.
