My project aims to support the production of the feature Amethyst: Cockroach King, a film that translates what anime has successfully portrayed for decades for a Western audience still hesitant to accept adult-oriented animated movies, by depicting its strengths in a hybrid of live-action and 2D hand-drawn VFX.
This proof-of-concept is a direct page from the script itself and displays every quality that the feature aims to bring fresh to a new audience: stylized impact frames, hand-drawn diegetic and non-diegetic VFX, themes and tone from Shōnen and Seinen anime, and original stories with deep philosophical quandaries.
