AMiOS (an acronym for "Art & Music in Our Souls") is an artist-run, process-driven, participatory arts collective with a theatrical focus, whose mission is to build community around the continual generation of art that reflects and responds to our ever-changing world.
Your patronage as we approach our 2020 season:
- will create 54 new short plays (SHOTZ!)
- will develop 4 new full-lengths (First Draughts)
- will produce the world-premiere of Fartlek, or der Froschmausekrieg*!
Your patronage will support the AMiOS community in the form of essentials (insurance, website, etc.) space (the most sizeable line item for fledgling companies), and artists' stipends. We'd be honored if you would help us nurture this wealth of talent and continue to develop high-quality art month after month.
We make new plays every month, written for actors and directors. We showcase musicians and visual artists, and have an open-door policy–if you like what we do, and want to participate, we'll make it happen!
*About Fartlek
Fartlek is an epic, hilarious tale of contemporary Canadian teenagers obsessed with the ancient Viking sport Knattleikr. As play unfolds, wills are tested, coalitions are formed, noses are broken, and we question what it means to grow up and make peace with ourselves and each other.
More About AMiOS:
We produce plays. And other stuff, but mostly plays. Lots of them. We've produced over 600 shorts in 10 years, developed 12 of those into full-lengths @ First Draughts, our new play reading series. Last year we produced a full run of Lizzie Vieh's The Loneliest Number, directed by Maria Dizzia, our first mainstage show to come directly out of this pipeline, which was nominated for 4 New York Innovative Theater Awards including Outstanding Original Script and Outstanding Ensemble. This year, Jennifer Makholm's Vanquished and Amy Berryman's The New Galileos, both of which were developed as part of 2018's First Draughts series, were named finalists for the Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference.
We're an indie theater company that consistently features television, film, and Broadway regulars—in the last two months alone, SHOTZ! alums have starred in Choir Boy (Broadway), Tootsie (Broadway), and The Light (MCC).
