Arts for All Abilities Consortium LLC (formerly The Arts In Special Education Consortium, which was established in 2007) was formed to address an important issue. There were many stakeholders involved in arts education for students with disabilities who often had similar goals but lacked sufficient means to come together and share ideas, needs, problems and solutions.
Our organization provides these means and the opportunities to deepen practice, understanding and the quality of Arts education provided students with disabilities.
We believe the Arts
• Reveal and deepen the capacity of students with disabilities
• Provide students with disabilities important, and sometimes their best, means to make, understand and express meaning
• Give students with disabilities increased access to the world and increased possibilities in it
• Provide those working with and supporting students with disabilities critical insights and new entry points, and increased motivation and opportunity to grow new, meaningful and innovative partnerships
We believe in making more – and more – room at the table.
To those ends we reach out to stakeholders – Teaching Artists, Arts Teachers, Classroom Teachers, Museum Educators, School and Arts Administrators, Related Service Providers (Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Mental Health Counselors), Paraprofessionals and Parents – offering an annual conference and other events. These venues focus on under-addressed topics, provide professional development and present innovative partnership models along with how to build, grow and sustain them.
