Ava’s Smile was created in memory of 17-year-old visual artist and poet Ava Hecht. Dedicated to honoring Ava’s legacy of creativity and compassion, Ava’s Smile offers creative arts workshops for young people in order to enrich their lives and to help them reach their full potential.
Since 2012, Ava’s Smile has been offering visual arts and writing programs. We are thrilled that the projects have been received enthusiastically by the participants.
Past projects have been offered in partnership with the Cooper Union School of Art Outreach Program, Bard High School Early College Manhattan and Uptown Stories. Art projects have included animation workshops (both cel and stop-motion), an intermedia self-portrait project, and a collage and web design project. Writing projects have included poetry and a political writing workshop.
Though only 17 years old, Ava’s indelible mark continues to inspire creativity and compassion. Ava’s Smile looks forward to pursuing its mission to offer creative arts opportunities in NYC for young people.
