Solar Party Detroit, a mobile solar power company, will supply power to the production and the premiere at the Solar Party Detroit Warehouse. The film aims to reflect a unique local story of two communities coming together in their love of the ornate and to have the film find a local and international audience.
Synopsis: “Between Us, the Sun” centers on a Black jazz musician at the threshold of his career. In the week leading to a pivotal performance, he dreams that to attain glory in his music, he must wear a golden sun pendant around his neck. He turns to an Armenian jeweler to create the piece for him. The Armenian jeweler, the son of an immigrant, has never created a piece from scratch. For him, this is a moment to prove himself as his father’s apprentice. From the moment the two meet an instant bond is formed. A conversation is started between the two men which carries through the entire film as they share their origin stories, speaking about their cultures and their love for their craft. As the commissioned piece is being created, and in the days leading up to the performance, the film weaves together two narratives, following each man through the intimate moments of their daily lives in Detroit as they evolve to a level beyond their limitations.
