STORY

Blood Moon Manor a New Musical
When young couple Roxy and Iman buy their first home, all couldn’t be better: a beautiful beach-side manor, pre-furnished, and affordable at that! That is, until a lunar eclipse reveals a treacherous curse that raises the spirits of those trapped within the manor’s walls. Now the couple have the duration of the lunar eclipse to help all of the souls find peace, otherwise Roxy and Iman will join them in the afterlife. Will they survive the night, or will the tensions in their relationship lead to their downfall? Find out in this new, original rock horror musical!

WHY NOW?

While on the surface Blood Moon Manor may seem like just another horror story, the actual narrative runs deep. Touching on themes of elder abuse, child neglect, racism, misogyny in medicine, homophobia, drug addiction, and suicide, the story brings heavy topics to the forefront in a time when we need to remember to have empathy for the experiences of those around us. Likewise, the story also questions unchecked power and how none of us are exonerated from the actions of our past unless we do the work to right the harm we have caused. In a time where marginalized communities are once again having their voices stifled, it is on us to listen to their stories and give them a platform. Likewise, it is our duty to listen to their experiences with an empathetic ear, a lesson we tackle with our show’s main plot.

THE WRITERS

Kaleb Sells: Book & Lyrics
Kaleb Sells

Kaleb Sells is a writer, actor, singer, and director based in New York, NY. With a passion for theatre that makes audiences reflect on both themselves and society at large, the concept for Blood Moon Manor was born out of Kaleb’s desire to raise awareness to the experiences endured by friends and family both at the hands of an oppressive system and due to apathy directed towards underrepresented communities. He is honored and grateful to have gotten to create this show with Benjy and knows that the music bringing this story to life will stay with audiences for years to come. A few of Kaleb’s favorite shows he has worked on include Crazy For You, Assassins, and The Clockmaker’s Daughter.

Benjamin Balatbat: Music

Benjamin Balatbat

Benjamin Balatbat is a pianist, music director, and composer based in New York City. He has played in off-Broadway shows such as Alan Turing and the Queen of the Night at the Players Theatre and Anne Frank, a Musical at the Actors' Temple. Other favorite music directing credits include You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, and Urinetown. Benjamin has also worked as a dance pianist for the Misty Copeland Foundation and the National Dance Institute and as a staff accompanist for the musical theatre department at Pace University. He is excited to share the music of Blood Moon Manor and is thrilled to be working on this powerful and emotional story.

FUNDING NEEDS

For our first fully-staged production of this show, we want to secure the AMT Theater on W45th Street or a theater of similar size and technology for an AEA Showcase performance.
The AMT Theatre

We are setting a goal of 15,000 to cover half of the production. This will provide the fair pay for the cast and creative team while leaving funds for helping with a portion of production costs. We are also partnering with other producers (some of it has already been secured such as our partners at Shatter The Glass) but our priority with this campaign is to provide the people working on this show compensation for their work and time. We want to bring in the talent, space, and energy this show needs to bring it to life in the best way possible. This means we want to hire both Equity and Non-Equity performers, have a full design team, and create an engaging and thrilling performance experience for audiences. Below is a breakdown of what percentages of our current projected budget will be going to what areas of our production.

Showcase Budget Breakdown
