New Jazz Art Songs is suite of original compositions dreamed up by Bidi Dworkin, lyricist and composer. Lyrically invested in stories that swan dive into the mysteries that rest beneath the surface, Bidi's songs explore numinous possibilities by unveiling the unconscious and reactivating dreamscapes that are expressed through poetic storytelling modes and melodic atypical forms.
Bidi's creative partner is Peter Eldridge, composer/arranger/producer and 2x Grammy award-winner. Peter Eldridge has been described as "a superb musical alchemist, synthesizing modern jazz with not only pop but also R&B and Latin music."
Together, our process is proving to be alchemical as we turn base metal (the first draft of a song) into gold.
"It’s been a rewarding journey, helping Bidi in the creation of her new all-original project. The music she’s been writing of late has equal amounts of light and dark, whimsy and reflection, each song evolving into what’s starting to feel like a set of jazz 'art songs’. The stripped down intimacy of just voice and piano also help with this ‘art song’ aspect. I look forward to the next batch of ideas she has cooked up and the directions we can take them.", Peter Eldridge
Here's how your contribution will serve the project:
As Bidi's compositions near completion, she and Peter will head into the studio to record the album. While some of the songs are duo, voice and piano only, others are "calling" for additional musical support, ie bass, drums, and a soprano sax or accordion. Expenses include multiple days of studio rental with engineer, accompanist(s) and producer, followed by mixing, mastering, art work, publicity, videos, and live performances. Your tax-deductible contribution will help to carry this project through, in a timely way, from beginning to end. Bidi Dworkin Music sincerely appreciates your generosity in supporting, preserving, and celebrating original music.
